May 22: Insane Dane
Sunshine for 9. That's what Mother Nature gifted us for the Brains and Brawn ride last night. LuciO definitely epitomized the Brains of the operation, showing up a few minutes after the Draft had taken off, yet beating B2 Bomber to Cross Plaines. Short cut or a plethora of mitochondria? It wasn't clear. Brawn was most definitely awarded to Captain Joe, who rode 3 hours earlier in the day as his faith in the weather holding for the Draft was tested. The cumulative Brains and Brawn award goes to the Tobacco City Cousin, who flatted (again), conveniently by the Capital Brewery refreshment stand, and declared ridding on a flat will serve to increase his fitness and cut back on inner tube expenses. Brilliant. Brains and Brawn are only part of the equation. Let's not forget fashion. CM Wille set the tone with her post-ride purple fleece, capturing the spring lilac colors, sleek black sweat pants, post-clinic dress shoes and Drafter headband. This outfit is not for sale.We missed Coach Arms and husband Legs, who decided it wise to avoid the risk of riding (and crashing) in the rain before heading off to the jungle. We are eagerly awaiting African Safari and Kilimanjaro footage in Drafter gear. No pressure to win the photo contest.Insane Dane will be our last May ride! You are welcome to gather on your own for a Memorial Day extravaganza, but I will be migrating north to the cabin for some non-cycling extra curricular activities. Starting in June, expect the mileage to increase in a linear fashion with daylight hours. The Insane Dane is a counterclockwise 32 mile jaunt, with an option to cut off on Fellows Rd. The Short Pour will ride clockwise and cut over on Hyer for a 25mile excursion, with the option to turn around at the bike path at the end of Woodland Rd. This is a GREAT option for Newbies who want to dip their toe in the water without scuba gear.
